Techno-economic efficiency of marine fisheries in Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve, India

Capture marine fisheries play a significant role in social, cultural, and economic dimensions of Indian capture that contributes to the blue growth strategies. Here small-scale (SSF) constitute about 60 % remaining 40 large-scale fishing fleets (LSF). In this study, we have highlighted techno-economic key indicators technical efficiency SSF LSF Gulf Mannar Biosphere Reserve, India using Cobb-Douglas function, Data Envelopment Analysis. The was slightly higher (TE = 0.961) with better quantity fish produced per litre fuel (5.05 kg) compared 0.951). labour such as value ($87.56) day (83.39 greater than ($7.07 14.26 kg, respectively). Though production cost for LSF, gross revenue $658.27 generated ($42.41) it mainly related engine power (150 – 200 hp) longer ground distance from shore (117.50 km) (9.9 25 hp 48.80 km, Results present study suggest there is limited scope improve fleet since both were operated at conditions. However, lower trip can be improved minimized by improving performance Reserve.
